Hunter Tylo Retinoblastoma

Hunter Tylo is a woman dually cursed and blessed. Soon after the birth of her infant daughter Katya that same child was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eye. One eye was removed and a tumor was detected in the other; but, soon enough - and to their complete amazement - the tumor vanished. Katya now wears one prosthetic eye and is otherwise healthy.
What IS retinoblastoma, however? Beyond just a cancer? As the name suggests, it’s specifically a cancer of the retina that can cause either a perpetual squint or a very large and painful red eye (or both). It’s a genetic disorder than may be carried down and usually requires the removal of the eye, as the eye is much more harm than good.
Luckily retinoblastoma is generally treatable, and the vast majority of children survive through the ordeal just fine. As the cancer can affect both eyes, however, the child may find themselves blinded for life in severe cases.
